My name is Thomas E W Walker and I am the founder and maker of Leathersmith and Utility Goods Manufacturer - ERNEST WALKER LTD.

All my goods are handmade to order in small batches in my studio workshop based in St. Leonards-On-Sea, East Sussex, England. I take influence from vintage motorcycle leather wear, British Army issue canvas webbing packs and civilian work wear of the 1930s and 40s to turn minimal, utilitarian designs into durable goods that are truly fit for purpose.

Working with British natural materials of the highest quality: English Oak Bark Tanned Bridle Leather, Scottish 100% Cotton Canvas, Solid Brass Hardware Sand Cast in England and Pure Copper Saddlers Rivets.

As a child my Father taught me to be self-sufficient so I studied carpentry, sewing and leather crafts among many other practical skills. I have always worked with my hands and choose to craft old-fashioned, utility goods for everyday use rather than offer the false economy of poor quality modern ‘disposable’ items we so often have to re-buy on a regular basis.

Plastics are never used in my goods or packaging and it is very important to me that when my products come to the end of their long and serviceable life they can be recycled, re-used or will naturally biodegrade.

I am a one-man-brand solely designing, making and shipping all goods myself so please be patient with manufacturing times - I do my best to get orders out as soon as possible. Nothing rushed can ever be quality craftsmanship.

The ERNEST WALKER LTD. brand bears my Great Grandfather’s name as a constant reminder to never cut corners, take pride in your work and always strive for the best in quality and craftsmanship. Ernest Walker served in the Royal Flying Corps during World War 1 and a portrait of him dressed in his military uniform hangs in my family home.
